Oil capacity

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I want to change the oil in my son's 2008 Pontiac G6. I am
not clear as to how much 5W-30 to put back in it. Owners
manual and Google aren't helping. I don't know the
transmission. 4 cylinder engine, after that I'm not sure.
Any advice would be appreciated!

Thant info is in your owner's manual even though you said it was "no help". Look under capacities in the index. It will probably tell you the capacity for both a 4 cylinder engine and a six cylinder engine. Since yours is a 4, it should tell you the capacity with (more) and without (less) a filter change. If that still does not work for you, start with 4 quarts and monitor the level via the dip stick. The bottom mark is usually 1 quart below full. When you think it is registering "full", start the car momentarily and let the oil circulate into the top end. shut the car off, wait a minute and check the level again and add more oil a little at a time if below the full line.
Exactly. Probably around 4 1/2 quarts but don't overfill.
