Battery issue?

Asked by Ldub27 Nov 16, 2018 at 07:19 PM about the 2008 Pontiac G6 GT

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Put a new battery in and everything worked fine.
The next day I was driving and headlights went dim
and radio kept going on and off then headlights
went out completely as well as dash lights, radio
and every other light. Pulled up at home and car
cut off. Tried to start it again and just got clicking
noises. Jumped it and it started. Turned it off,
clicking noises again. Battery is brand new. Belt by
the alternator is making a "whirring" noise. Any
suggestions?

I totally agree with the earlier reply I'm almost certain it's the alternator. 300 dollar job in most cases good luck

Failing alternators always whine before failure. They whine louder as you increase the power load. Get a new one for $100 and put it in yourself, it's easy on that engine. I totally agree with both replies. Good, complete advice that applies to all cars.

My problem with taking it somewhere to be tested is that the car won't even stay on long enough after a jump to drive anywhere to get it tested. I'm really thinking it's the alternator. Someone also mentioned something about a wiring fuse not being connected correctly? Or wire being bad? The battery light is lit up on dash and the only time it has ever went off is when we messed the wire attached to the alternator.

I have the same exact problem , but my alternator is brand new . But it’s making a whining noise . I believe it’s the belt . The mech said I should have put grease back on the belt .

O9 pontic G6 ...my car keeps stalling.... It will start then just stall or I will go some where and it will not start... Replaced the battery and starter already. Got the alternator tested it's good.

Alternator is draining the battery, overcharging due to the Fusible Link these were my diagnoses when i went to shops, mobile mechanics, and referral mechanics. I had to replace battery, alternator, and have the fusible link done. I had the same exact issues.
