Check your fluid level and make sure the belt is properly tensioned and not slipping.

First you need to find out if the system is Hydro or electric motor assist....!

"olgeezer" is right. I assumed you had a hydraulic pump and not an electric system. A hydraulic system has a pump with a reservoir that is driven by a belt attached to the front of your engine. The same belt runs the alternator, water pump, AC Compressor and Power Steering. It needs to be tight and not slipping on the pulleys it is driving. The reservoir is part of the pump and has a cap that also serves as a dip stick to show the fluid level. Unscrew this cap and see that the fluid level comes up to the mark showing "full".
