Radio keeps turning off after a loud popping noise. Could this be a wiring issue or something else?

While listening to the radio there was a loud popping noise and then the sound stopped. It still has power on the radio just no sound.

Check the GROUND to the unit. Could have jostled loose or is in the process of jiggin' loose- also be sure your FM antenna is firmly plugged into the back.
I think it was your radio's way of telling you good-bye...
Was the engine on or off ? if off it could be a bad battery or battery conectros need to be cleaned
radio is toast, ebay time or install a aftermarket radio of you choice

The engine was on. I was actually driving. My husband will hopefully take off the dash this weekend and look and check the wires. My check engine light was on and after having an O2 sensor replaced and the transmission taken out to be checked it turns out some type of rodent had chewed on the main wires and they had to be repaired. When they were repaired the radio worked upon asking I found out that when those wires were repaired that once the wire was jiggled the radio started working which leads me to thing that either a wire was chewed and sometimes they connect and I get the radio to work.
i am having same problem did you figure it out just keeps happening I cleaned battery connectors and it worked again for awhile then popped again
