How can I test my cooling system without a pressure tester?

Asked by Bradtartaglia Apr 04, 2018 at 08:50 PM about the 2008 Ford Focus SE Coupe

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Are there any safe ways to test your cooling system/locate leaks (radiator,
hoses, etc) without using a radiator pressure tester? A friend recommended
simply filling up the coolant reservoir (Which is now empty) and start the car for
a few seconds. While I was driving the other day, my car lost all of its coolant
and started overheating... Still trying to find the leak and I don't have a
pressure tester on hand.

Look for bubbles in the coolant which may indicate a leaking head gasket.
