08 Ford Focus: Car won't accelerate

About a month ago I noticed my car was doing weird
things as far as shifting, the RPMs didn't seem to shifting
right. Then I noticed when I let off my accelerator there
was a low groaning or humming sound, I took it to a
mechanic and he said it was a faulty CV shaft, had it for 5
days and the day after getting it back it broke down. I was
going over a bridge and my RPMs shot up to 6000 nothing
seemed to really happen after that until a mile down the
road I stopped at a red light and my car just wouldn't go, I
was able to get it into a parking lot by it rolling but pushing
the gas the RPMs would just shoot up. I'm taking it to a
ford dealership but I'm still at a loss.

Yes, the mechanic who worked on my car the first time did, it looked "fine. not yet needed to be changed, but in a couple thousand miles or so"
