Constant cooling fan on

Asked by Gti_er Feb 12, 2019 at 10:12 PM about the 2008 Volkswagen Golf GTI 2.0T 2-Door FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

08 VW GTi - cooling fan comes on way after the
vehicle is turned off and it'll stay on until the
battery dies. I've checked the fuses. Everything is
good in that aspect. Just need this little defect
fixed.

On American made cars a "non-stop fan" is caused by a stuck relay but I have no listing for your car's fan relay. However there is a fan control module that may be at fault. I do not know the location but it would be in the fan motor circuit. I've also seen turbo cooling fans that run while engine is off, but they too would be on a control module that turns them on/off at certain temperatures.

Sounds like the relay is stuck on. Try swapping the cooling fan relay with another relay in the fuse box.
