does the belt turn in the front of the motor when you crank it
ok I'm not understanding the pistons are attached to the crank so what is turning over can you send a photo

Yes the pistons are conected to the crankshaft the engine is not opened at all the person i bought from said it drove fine he parked and the next day when he tryed to turn it on the crankshaft moved with thr belt but not the pistons

ok so if you try to start it it sounds like it is cranking and at the same time some one can look under the hood and see the belt going around
ok well there is a timing belt on this car and this might be the problem.

How can i tell if that is the problem why doesent the pistons turn?
if it is cranking over it is indead the piston is going up and down. we need to find out if it is timing belt or chain. try taking the oil fill cap off and look in to see if you can see the cam rails or the rockers. if you can see them have some one turn the car over and see if they move

Its not cranking over when i try to turn it on the only things that move are the crankshaft and the belt i could not hear any of the pistons moving
the starter is not engaging or when you turn the key does it crank meaning the starter is engaging and turning the motor over?
2008dodgecharger answered 9 years ago
Yes the starter does work the problem is that the crankshaft is the only thing that turnsover not the pistons when i try to turn it on the crankshaft moves with the belt but not the pistons

i got it some one took your rod bolts. lol no i would say the starter needs to be taken out and checked.

timing belt i would think. you would have to pull a valve cover or the front motor cover to have a look. it is not an easy job to replace. also i don't know if it is an interference motor or not
