Ticking/Knocking

Asked by Chris Nov 22, 2017 at 09:04 PM about the 2008 Jeep Wrangler X 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When I accelerate above 2000 rpm I get a higher pitched
knocking from the engine. What could it be?

Knocking or pinging? Try premium gas, if the noise stops then you know you need higher octane gasoline.

I did try premium for a while and it subsided for maybe a week while I was running premium but then came back.

A historical radiator fan connector, and I’ve checked it a million times and cleared the code 3 sperate times but it keeps coming back as historical.

I even took it to the jeep dealership here a few months ago when it wasn’t as bad and they said they couldn’t recreate it and charged me $260 for the inspection.

Yes they are... thank you. I’ve done 2 coolant flushes since it started and I checked the hoses and thermostat it all checks out.

Make sure the cooling fan is working, the air is purged out of the system and that the water pump is not worn out.

Okay I’m doing that tonight. Wouldn’t I see the temp gauge get hot though?

Yes but sometimes low coolant level may cause overheating but not the gauge to go up.
