Do I need to get my transmission repaired?

Asked by keep2r Mar 13, 2017 at 11:54 AM about the 2009 Toyota Corolla LE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Took my 60,000 mile 2009 toyota corolla for maintenance, they did a
transmission fluid drain and refill with filter change and told me that the fluid
was dirty with debris. The guy said it was most likely clutch disk material and
said he'd need to take the entire transmission out to replace the clutch disk.

I haven't noticed any issues with driving the car and didn't even realized there
was a problem.

Estimated costs was $1600 just for labor without replacement costs. How
serious is this issue and is this guy overcharging me?

1 Answer

I would keep driving it as long as the transmission is not slipping. Keep and eye on the fluid to make sure it is not turning brown.
