Check Engine Light

Asked by waynelw Oct 31, 2015 at 09:45 AM about the 2008 Dodge RAM 1500 SXT RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

We have changed all four oxygen sensors first with OEM replacements.
then we change the BCM  and light still comes on a day or two later it will go off.  When light is off,  17-18 mpg  when on about 13 mpg.   We changed PCM yesterday and had it set by Youngs Chrysler in Owosso Michigan.  Light came back on after 35 miles.

Can anyone help solve this mystery   Code reads when on" reading slow from side one to side two"

Thanks

No mystery ,,,It's probably the O2 sensor. Check the output of #2 sensor with OBD ... you should see about a half volt (.4vdc to 5.5vdc) If you are not in that range the Computer gives an alarm (CEL) and defaults the engine to a "Rich" setting. 4 sensors indicates to me that your mechanic is incompetent ... Duh ... what does he do when a fuse blows ??? keep changing fuses? Do you think the reason the O2's are triggering an alarm is because they are working ,,but the Catalytic converter is failing ??? Cats are not that expensive ... in fact if you spent what 4 O2's already cost you then you would almost have enough
