08 Silverado w/ check engine light on
Asked by dtaylor Jul 29, 2011 at 10:03 PM about the 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 1LT Crew Cab RWD
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I have a 08 Silverado 4.8L. The check engine light came on. I took it to Auto Zone. They said cylinder #4 is misfiring. Probable cause is faulty spark plug, wire or core. I have all the items replaced, and the light came back on and Im getting the same code after replacing everything new. Does anyone out there know what the problem may be. The truck only has 78K on it and runs like a top, but I hate seeing that light on.

unhook your battery, eather side for about 10 minutes,it will clear the code from computer and light will go out.
Ill give it a try. I had Auto Zone clear the code with the computer, and it stayed off for a day, then came back on.
I DONT HAVE THE ANSWER BUT MY TRUCK IS DOING THE SAME THING, BUT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND THEN THE CONSOLE READ A/C OFF ENGINE HOT BUT MY ENGINE IS NOT HOT. NOW MY AC WILL NOT COME ON
take it to a dealership and have them check the engine if the 4th cylinder is missing there may be a problem with the engine if it's under 100k they should replace it for you they did on my cobalt at 76k
does it sound rough when it runs that would confirm a missfire as a probability it could be causted by a mistiming
sounds like a coil pack for # 4.
most common problem is bad lifter for missfire , you also hear slight noise , yes as jean stated the warrenty is 5years 100k so dealer can warrenty that

fdaniels< i had the same thing happen to mine it turned out the thurmostate was bad, powertrain covered it.
I drive 100 miles per day. My 4.8 dropped cylinder 4 at 116000 miles. Ran great with a little rough idle once in a while. Dealer serviced regularly.

I have two Colorado's I've been told that a code reading misfire on cylinder 4 can be bad catalytic converters as well.
I have 2009 Chevy Silverado, it has a little over 81,000 miles on it. I've brought my truck into dealer about 4 times since fourth July weekend for check engine and truck shutting down on me. They have changed the throttle. The evap, and the computer module. Every time I go in and they say it's this or that and they change it i come home and several days later check engine light is on yet again. I feel like I'm getting scammed here! Anyone else's have this issue with their truck???
I have a 2008 Chevy Silverado w/ a 4.8 engine that has 85,700 to date. The summer of 2014 my engine check light came on with 78- 79k miles. took it to an auto parts store where they hooked up their little machine and gave me a code of PO 442, which tells me to replace the gas cap. Did that and within 7 days the light came back on. Someone suggested I disconnect the batterie, then reconnect the terminals. did that just to get it to pass the emission part of the inspection. Light came back on within 7 days. Took it to the dealer where I bought it ( 9/14 ) where the same code came up and they replaced the e-cap valve. $257. Within 7days it came back on. Now they tell me it is a gasket above the gas tank that has corroded. $700. Gm will kick in $300. I said the 1st repair didn't take care of it like your machine said so why should I believe it again? It was explain that there are several emission parts that fall under this PO442 so why should I pay out $$$ to chase this. It is still on and my inspection is due this month. I'm at a loss !!!!
I have the same problem in a 2008 chevy silverado.. i took it last summe 2015 to the dealership..spent almost $3000 on it.. and now its doing the samething back again!! and if i take it back, i have to pay again!! 1 year after they fixed it, ita happening again!!

I have a 08 silverado 4x4 z71 crew cab,I put 93 octane in it and engine light came on,what's the problem. .
I just filled up with 93 octane and same thing happened. Wth
Traverse_2231 answered 7 years ago
It's probably your evap system, the filters. .check that,or you need a new gas cap

I have swapped out wires, plugs ,coils, p446, and the gas line ,gas cap, ran seafoam, new alternator, it is a slight misfire stated but the diagnostics check also had throttle body replaced. It's been on for years misfire cylinder 4 and hesitation during warm up between 180*-210*.
This happened to me at 70,000 + miles. Dealer said bad spark plug and replaced. The happened at 80,000 + miles and Dealer said bad spark plug and replaced. Then at 97,000 miles happened again and this time dealer said bent valve and after $1800 in repairs it was running again. Chevy would not stand behind their product and said no warranty because it was one month over 5 years since purchase. It continues to happen every 10,000 miles and I replace spark plug. Came to realization that Chevy produced a piece of junk and will not stand behind their product. I once only had Chevy but never again.
Oil change is what mine was.

Fuel injector maybe also check inside distributor cap
I have an 08 Chevy half ton and mine reads the same as just about everyone elses as far as trouble codes, emissions, sensors, engine lights on, says misfiring on cylinder 6....i replaced the computer in it that was the problem. Ir will throw false codes all day long because the computer is telling it that its messed up when its not. The chevy dealer will have to reprogram the computer after its installed or the truck wont start. Learned that the hard way, would have been nice if the parts store would have told me that to begin with. Hope this helps out.
