Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I changed the Oil pressure sensor & the screen that's below it about 3 weeks ago. Today the pressure dropped and the same oil pressure low shut off engine now message came on. So what could be the problem? Remove the screen? My lifters are ticking and i have oil in the motor. Someone mentioned changing the PCV valve but would that throw this message? There is check engine light ISN'T on either. Any ideas?? Could it be a bad sensor?

How many miles on the engine? I am guessing the miles are high and the engine/bearings are worn out. The PCV has nothing to do with oil pressure.

You may want to replace the oil pump before replacing the engine. a high volume pump might get you a few more miles out of that engine but I suspect your engine is just too worn.

Thanks. Really hoping i don't have to replace the engine.

You could try replacing just the bearings but to do that right would involve pulling the engine. My guess is if you continue to drive it a rod knock might be next.

You should verify the oil pressure with a gauge before you do anything. If this is the 5.3L engine, there is a oil pressure issue with these engines. The solution is changing out the oil pump like F.O.R. suggest to the high volume oil pump.

The seal for the pickup tube likes to leak and cause low oil pressure. If you keep driving it like this damage will be done if it hasn't already. Bare minimum this needs to be done. It requires the oil pan to be removed

What oil filter are you using? Make sure the back flow is not rubber.

Low oil pressure reading. Listen up, Just install a AC DELCO PF64 OIL FILTER! This resolved my Low oil gauge pressure reading on my 2010 Silverado. I had about 180,000 miles on my truck at the time. It’s been a year since I drove it to Florida and still haven’t had any more low pressure readings. Give this cheap fix a try before you spend a lot of money on other parts
