Low oil pressure after piston change
Asked by Bob Nov 29, 2015 at 01:47 PM about the 2010 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LTZ Crew Cab 4WD
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
2010 Silverado 5.3 L Chevy dealer just changed all my pistons for oil ring
issue after blowing me off for 2 years. 72 miles after picking it up oil pressure
dropped to 19 psi. Ck eng light came on, code is P0521 Eng oil press sensor
range/performance. Apparently the dealer needs help from GMC to solve this.

The truck runs good, won't kick into V4 mode but doesn't make any noise. Need it fixed in no less then 3 days as I have a trip I need the truck for. Being an A&P mechanic with a couple decades of experience. My experience is telling me something wasn't put back together properly like maybe the oil pickup is loose or something like that. GMC wants them to check pressure at high & low side....have no idea what they did for the day they had last week.
Also like so many others on here....when I start it up cold, oil pressure is close to 40 psi & goes down as it warms up.
Sounds like they didn't put the rod bearings in right. Good luck on it being fixed in 3 days or less, lol.
I found a lot of people on another site having this same issue caused by the valve lifter oil filter located under the oil pressure sender......Dealer called yesterday and service manager told me they fixed everything by changing the fuel management check valve. Still haven't got my truck back and tried looking that check valve....can't seem to find it.
