If you have the defroster on, that kicks on the A/C to remove moisture, which in turn kicks on fan. It will go off when engine cools to a factory default temperature, albeit 10 minutes does seem like a long time. When running does it run at normal temperature on gauge?

there is a possibility that either the fan relay is bad (located under the hood) or there may be a grounding issue. I would try replacing the relay first if that does not work you will need to check the grounding.

I did some looking around and there are two sensors, I suck at trying to draw with a mouse so I just put arrows to one in red and one in blue.Yellow circle was already there around sending units. One is for gauge, the other is for fan. Trouble is I can't find out which is which, but reading some MINI forums that, what you describe happens when coolant gets low.

I agree with snoona001 also. Good point. That image will go full screen

I believe that the sensor for the fan has 2 wires in the connector and the gauge sensor only has one.

the clip that holds the sensor in place is touching the engine and grounding it on I had the same problem after I replaced the thermostat housing

I just bought a 2012 Mini, first few rides fan didn’t stay on, but today (3rd day I’ve had it), it stayed on for hours until I removed the fuse, but I had to put it back in, so now what? A bad sensor??

I've got same issue with fan staying on. Ive changed all sensors thermostat and housing and fan still the same! When I turn ignition on it comes on in about 8 secs and stays running 10 mins after turning off. Anyone get to the bottom of this

I just found the problem to this after changing the water pump and thermostat, the problem is the belt tensioner

@GuruFCTYF could you explain more what the issue is with the belt tensioner? I'm having the same issue. Thanks!

What did the belt tensioner have to do with it? I’m having the same issues. How much have you spent in repairs?

Ditto on what was the outcome?

Thermostat failure. SUPER common. Take it in and tell them it failed. Done.

Belt tensioner is electronically controlled. It connects the crank pulley to the water pump pulley to start coolant flow.

Most European cars do this. My Audi and Mercedes also has the fan on until the engine has cooled. There's nothing wrong with it.
