Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My Timing chain broke and it bent a few values I had a
shop fix my car and 3 weeks later the check engine
light would come on It would flash and then make a
sound and then the check engine light would just stay
on and it felt like the engine would be shaking I turn the
car off and back on and the shaking would stop and
sometimes the check engine light would go off. The
code says Is cylinder one misfire so I go back to the
shop they say it's this so I have that part replaced and
the same thing happens again then the car is starting
to run ruff so I change the spark plugs and they have
oil on them and the shop then replace the gasket and
the same thing happens again so the shop says it's
something different so I have that fixed and the car
starts running ruff again so take it back to the shop the
replace the gasket again but did not want me to know
they replaced it and just yesterday I took the spark
plugs off and they had a lot of oil on them. I have
talked to other shops and they say take my car back to
the shop that fixed it. The shop that fixed my car is
now saying it is my computer and other shops says
there is nothing wrong with my computer. When the
check engine light cones on you can here a ticking in
the muffler and a mist. Can someone tell me what the
shop did wrong cause my car never had this problem
until the shop fixed my car I called the shop and told
them my car is getting oil to the plugs I have been
telling them from day one I have pictures and videos of
everything from when I got my car back from the the
shop and at first the car would only act up in the winter
but now it's starting to do it while it's warm out and it
only happens when I first start the car. I need to know
what the shop Is our machine shop did or missed
something on my head. My car does not over heat it
runs really good other then this problem. Can anyone
answer my question What is causing the spark plugs
to get oil in them.

At this point you're throwing good money after bad. Cut your losses, junk it, and move on! You've already spent more on this vehicle than what it's worth! Jim

Thank you for your input but still don't answer my question and if I had money for a different car I would.

The shop messed up the first time. This sounds like they forgot the valve seals or the pistons are cracked from impact with the valves and they missed it when they tore it down. Now the shop is loosing money on the comeback and they don’t want it back to do it right, so they blame the computer and that is no way related to oil getting when it’s not suppose to be, that is an engine problem. They should have just sold you a replacement engine instead of trying to fix the original, it never ends well on these vehicles.

Oil fouling of the spark plugs is caused by an internal engine problem such as bad valve guide seals or worn/damaged piston rings. A bad computer will not cause this. They should run a compression test, both wet and dry, to determine if it's the rings or valve guide seals. If you're getting blue smoke from the tailpipe at idle or a puff of blue smoke on start up it's the valve guide seals. Bad rings will show up as low compression or sometimes blue smoke from the tailpipe when you're driving. Hope that helps! Jim

Thank you James. This does help a lot. I had called the shop the other day and told them we need to talk cause I know they know what's wrong with my car. I paid 2.975.33 for valve grind, water pump, cylinder head bolt, cylinder head gasket, water pump and timing component kit, oil filter, oil antifreeze, variable value timing (vvt) solenoid after all that 3 weeks later check engine light then they said it was Ignition coils so I replaced them my self and replaced my spark plugs and seen they had oil on them and I told the shop about it and like I said they replaced the gasket and did not want me to know about it I been telling them my plugs are getting oil to them so Monday I'm taking the car back to them and am thinking about getting a lawyer cause they told me it was my fuel injectors so I just paid 790.55 on 3-24 and the check engine light still on and I replaced the spark plugs myself 5-12 and you seen the picture. I have pictures and videos showing the check engine light came right on after they fixed my car and after I found oil on the spark plugs I been recording our conversations and they have told me to bring my car back to them in the winter time cause that's when the check engine light would come on but since the last time they had my car now it cones on when it's warm out and only when I first start the car and you can hear a loud ticking I have recorded every sound the car makes and am done with the shop I am going to see what they say and if they don't fix my car I'm gonna get a lawyer. I know you all think my car is not worth all this but it is cause she runs so good and I was not able to pay for all this at once it took three months to save and every time I had extra money I would take it to the shop to put on my books and that's where I messed up cause they kept taking my money saying it's this and that. Thank you for your input.

You're welcome. Glad to help! Unfortunately I've been down this road before. In 1984 I bought a '78 Eldorado. The car was only 6 years old at the time and, supposedly, had 53,000 miles on it. It was a beautiful looking car and the engine ran well. I was a senior in high school and had saved the money for the downpayment from my part time after school job. My parents helped me get the financing and so I had a car payment of $121 a month which was a lot for a high school kid in those days. That car was nothing but trouble. Over the next two years I put nearly $2,000 into it just for repairs to keep it going, on top of the car payment and insurance. Every penny I made went into that car! Then in 1986, after spending over $400 for the brakes, I was told it needed $1,600 in repairs to the front end. I didn't have the money and the car was not safe to drive. That's when I decided to cut my losses and trade it in. It was the only time in my life I got rid of a vehicle before it was paid for and my Father was furious. He offered to lend me the money to fix it but I said no. Getting rid of it was the right thing to do. For whatever reason it was always something else with that car. Jim
