Shift stock on Reverse Gear

had my suv on reverse and then when i pull the shiftier to D, i heard a noise like
something broke, the suv turned off and would not move at all.  What could it
be?

Turn the key to power, move the transmission to the different gears, see if your dash lights change gears. If not....Crawl under and look at the transmission linkage. There's a plastic bushing that likes to break off. Most autoparts stores carry them in the "Help" section, pretty common failure on our platform. You can zip tie it to get you on the road again.
