My ac does not work at idle.

Asked by jmlawdog Jun 12, 2012 at 12:47 AM about the 1996 Honda Civic Coupe DX

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Once vehicle gets rpm above 1000-1200 the ac blows cool.  The ac still is not very cold when driving..The compressor dryer/condencer was replaced but still never fixed the problem. Also had same shop work on my 2000 silverado w/5.3L and it has the same problem.  The truck however is much cooler when driving. At idle blows warm. At rpm blows cold

I had the same problem with my nissan, make sure to check for leaks using dye and also check the amount of frion being put into the system. If its low that will cause the warm air at idle due to the ac compressor switch not detecting enough pressure from the system. Otherwise, be prepared to buy another compressor.

If it works better,or cycles on and off it could be OVER filled cutting out due to high head pressure.Have your systems freon removed and refilled so the amount of freon can be checked. TOO much is just as bad as not enough.
