why is a battery symbol popping up and my steering is hard to turn

Check your serpentine belt. It has probably come off. It either shredded or you have a pulley not tracking straight. Usually water pump

A water pump DOES NOT affect your belt on this car. You're looking at a huge repair bill to fix this right. Solve the oil leak, replace the belt, replace the front crank seal that was probably damaged, remove the oil pan to fish out the belt material in the engine. We've done this multiple times.
