What does the service engine soon light mean on a 2009 Mitsubishi galant mean?

Using their code reader, your local auto parts store will read the code for you for free usually. The service engine soon is directly related to emissions on your car.

I went to my local autozone and an extremely nice guy used the code reader and told me that it could be as the gas cap not being closet tightly or some kind of valve right inside of the gas tank. My gas cap was not closet tightly.

Service enginee, means you have to SERVICE the enginee.... Change oil, filters, and so on

Yes this is a part of what it means along with many other engine codes. My car has 201 codes that the service engine light indicates just to give you an idea.

I know ... but if there is a critical error in the car... you get check enginee light ;) not service light

Actually in Mitsubishi's the "Service Engine Soon" light is the same as a "Check Engine" light in other cars. When Mitsubishi's require an oil change a "Routine Maintenance Required" light comes on. There's your logic.

I changed my oil and the light is still on

I don't think all models and years have the routine maintenance required light. My Mitsubishi Galant does not have that

I replaced the Engine About Five months ago......Car runs Good. And this morning the service engine light came on
