Speedometer is way off

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
My speedometer in my 84 monte carlo ss is way off, like i will be going 35 or so and it will
say im doing 55-60. My brother said this is putting unneeded mileage on the mileage
counter. Is it? and if so i need someone who can show me in a video or something of how
to unhook the speedometer.

...okay, take a look at your door jamb...this will be the specified tire size...appparently there is a tire that is perhaps 20 percent larger in diameter...verify that the tires on the car are the correct ones as specified by your door jamb~

....that's CRAZY talk...you want to KNOW when you're breakin' the law~!
the speedometer cable is attached on the drivers side of the trans. and can be disconnected by turning the cables capscrew counterclockwise. do not take the bolt beside it out because this will allow the gear to come out and you will lose fluid. the best soloution would be to get the correct gear while having the speedometer calibrated. did you change the transmission or the ring and pinion ?
PROBALY THE SPEEDO HEAD IS OFF ... OR SOMEBODY CHANGED THE REAR END GEARS .... most SS monte's came with 3.73 gears and 245/ R60 -15 tires .... about 26 inches tall .. unless somebody put 4.56 or lower gears in the rear its probly the speedo head .
