Car won't start, ignition locked

Saturday afternoon, I removed both
headlights to replace the bulbs. Everything
went smoothly and was put back in fine.
After that. I started the car and ran some
errands, again no issues.

That same night, I went to a friend's, got in
my car, turned the key...
Nothing happened, absolutely nothing. No
lights turned on, the engine made no noise,
it was like it was 100% dead.

Frustrated, I went to turn the car off, and
now the key won't turn.
It was stuck in the on/accessory position.
I hit the release button under the steering
wheel and was able to get the key out.


My question is what could have happened ?
Or gone wrong ?  Any ideas would be
appreciated.
