Sounds like a power steering rack motor/module malfunction. My advice do not attempt to drive the car until you or someone else at a garage with a lift can have a further look into this. Wish it was just a low fluid issue but many other people have run into similar problems concerning this issue. Good Luck!

Have you figured out what the issue was? I am having the same problem with my 05 g6, we checked the eps fuse and it was fine.

I'm having same problem.check engine light came on couple moths ago during polar vortex (live in southern mn- our winter this year was unreal with amount if ice&snow and cold so thought this cold snap maybe caused electrical issues along with ice and snow build up)and then week later power steering will come across radio display but it was still working.now it goes in and out.if I shut car off when power steering is out, then turn car back on- it works again.when it IS working and car is in park, the wheel shakes around slightly and when you shut car off it lightly shakes until I'm guessing the power steering motor shuts off.I know I have the EPS system(4 cylinder 2008 Pontiac g6) called local GM since I saw online 5 recalls for year of car,but another page where I put VIN# in said zero.gm guy pulled it up and said 3 of 5 issues were fixed in 2013, but if course "not this one"- except online it said there was lifetime replacement (I bought car a year ago from used dealer)so is it maybe just a fuse or sensor-I know being female and going into shop guys think we are complete morons and some will refuse to admit you're right when you know you are just to charge you as much as possible.what is going on overall and is it easy fix? I'm a single mom if 2 yr old and don't want to pay out the a** for something that IS covered.think guy said he would of course hook it up to diagnostic reader- OK that's between $70-120 just doing this since he isn't sure what it could be and may be he is truthful but a jerk on phone when I was explaining what I just did here- got mad when I even asked if he could run VIN to see if or what recalls were fixed-he got irritated I knew there were recalls even that could be serviced- anyone have ideas? Thinking maybe just a fuse in either cab or under hood since power steering goes in and out.if it was completely out I would understand him not knowing what it may run to fix.

I’m having this same problem, and I haven’t found answers yet , all I know is this is un safe and it isn’t my fault so I shouldn’t have to pay for it
