Engine Light On

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Took car to local parts store because the engine light was on in my 2009 Pontiac G6.  The guy advised me that it was "Exhaust Cam Shaft Position".  When asked what that meant he advised me he did not know and had never seen that before.  Any help would be great.

you know that makes no sense, don't you? Exhaust valves DO NOT have a dedicated camshaft...guessing it's your cam position sensor...will look for one right now~ Throw one of these on there...just a chance this may solve the riddle~

I know nothing about cars or how to work on them. Your answer though looks like what I probable need. Thanks a lot!

what else could it be? this one is important to know when to spark~ without it goes into "safe mode" and guesses at the spark~....and throws up a Check Engine Light~
