First car problems :(

Asked by HyundaiKate2009 May 21, 2016 at 01:07 AM about the 2009 Hyundai Accent GLS Sedan FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So, I have a 2009 Hyundai Accent. It's my first car, just
bought it from a used car dealership. For the first few
days everything was great. After 4 or 5 days of having the
car, I noticed that every time I stopped at a stop sign/light
the car would rev and lose power when I tried to move
again. A little while later the check engine light came on. I
turned the car off and then on again and all the problems
appeared to be gone. Until the next day. The next day the
car began vibrating ridiculously and the check engine light
was blinking, the car had very little power. So, after doing
some research I figured it was the spark plugs. I brought it
back to the dealership where one spark coil was changed,
along with all four spark plugs. After that I went on a day
long road trip and everything was perfect. Well here it is
the next day and about an hour ago I realized the car
seemed to be losing power again. Then the check engine
light turned back on, but not blinking & no crazy vibrating.
Ugh, I'm a broke college student working a part time job :(
I can't afford problems. HELP

Possibly you have a timing issue, these vehicles have a timing belt, which is very easily slipped and can cause valve timing problems, these vehicles are notorious for many breakdown issues and are usually a bad choice to buy, my great niece bought a Hyundai Santa Fe, and had similar troubles before a piston shattered and destroyed the engine. If the timing belt breaks you could have very expensive repairs to deal with.

All that misfiring wasn't very good for it! hope you didn't drive it much when it was doing that? Have it read for codes, even if the check engine light is NOT on the computer will have stored information and codes. Discount auto stores will read codes for no fee. write them down.

I accidentally drove my 2008 Hyundai Accent hb over a 6 inch curb and heard a resounding 'thud' afterwards. The suspension has been impacted going over medium potholes now. For a first quick fix solution type thinking, i imagine the shock absorpers would be the first thing to look at/replace? thanx

The ignition coils on Hyundai accents are problematic. Takes less than 5 minutes to change them. You can buy a set of 4 on ebay or amazon for $40 or less. When mine start acting up i just change them all
