Lincoln town car (2009) transmission

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
transmission goes in reverse fine but will not go in drive until I rev the engine
several times. will eventually go in drive and go through all gears fine as long
as it is in drive. If I put it in overdrive it works until I stop, then will not go in
drive again until I rev the engine several times.

CHECK THE TRANSMISSION FLUID. HAS TO BE FULL TO GO INTO ALL GEARS.
I literally just got my 2006 Towncar back yesterday for the exact same thing. It would go in reverse just fine and move in reverse just fine. But in drive I would have to rev it and rev it then it would just take off like a bat outta hell. Eventually it wouldn't go in drive at all. The bad news is it cost me 2400.00 to have the transmission overhauled. My mechanic said the metal on the gears was all shaved down and it required a complete overhaul. He's been my mechanic for years and is very trustworthy.

The first day that you have trouble with your transmission start getting ready to have a transmission filter and flush done. Also go on LKQ or pick a part and start an account there get flagged for any Town cars that come into the junkyard around you through your email. A few things you must keep on schedule with your maintenance is transmission filter changes. is probably the most important fluid in your engine sure without oil your engine won't run but without transmission fluid it won't go anywhere make it number one priority. Or throw it in the gutter and go buy another. Best of luck
