2009 Hyundai Santa Fe Hard to Start

Pumping the accelerator on a modern equipped with fuel injection car does nothing as far as fuel to the engine in concerned. This isn't like the old days with carburetors and a direct link between the gas peddle and throttle plate. In fact your engine computer is ignoring the fuel peddle position while starting up except for one position; wide open throttle (WOT), which only has the effect of clearing a flooded condition with the injectors (if holding the peddle in WOT during startup the injectors will not fire so that any excess fuel can be dispelled during cranking.) More than likely what is happening with your car is that it's taking a lot longer to crank before firing (while you're futilely pumping the peddle) or you were inadvertently hitting WOT causing a flooded condition to clear. You may have a problem with your fuel pressure regulator, which could be causing an extended cranking. Also check for any OBD trouble codes during startup.

Thanks for information. I have an OBD trouble code P0105 which I believe is related to the MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) sensor.

That could do it too, google a how to on cleaning the sensor or port. A bad sensor can cause a rich or lean fuel mixture.
