2009 Chevy Traverse, problem after problem and only had about 2 months

Asked by Danitza Apr 30, 2018 at 03:20 AM about the 2009 Chevrolet Traverse LS AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

First the check engine light came on
and started flashing and it started
running horribly bad. Like it was
either mis firing or running out of gas
the second day we had it. I knew that
that could potentially be a very bad
deal so we had the code read and it
was the catalyst emissions one I
believe it was like P420 or
something. Well it went off and
within a day came on and started
flashing again now it's a non stop
flashing everytime we really have to
give it extra gas like going up hills or
trying to pull out quickly. We had the
code read again and now it's said
cylinder #2 misfire. So the guy
changed the coil for that cylinder
which helped absolutely nothing.
Now the  "low oil pressure stop
engine now" warning came on a few
different times, the oil level is
perfect. I read it could be the oil
pressure sending unit. Well today I
checked it after about a 2 like round
trip nothing at all and the level is still
fine and it isn't peak by anywhere at
all but I noticed I can smell fuel in the
oil dipstick pretty bad. Does this
mean a blown head gasket or what
else could it be. ( IN SO SO
FRUSTRATED WITH THE LEMON.)
It's a beautiful looking and
comfortable riding SUV. Other than
that It's been horrible. It has about
160k miles. And ofcourse of all
states to live in its Indians and we
have no "LEMON LAW " here and my
wife had to sign an as is no warranty
to buy it ofcourse. Any help will be
very much appreciated. Thanks alot

What state are you in? Who told you there's no lemon law there? You may file a complaint on the dealer through the secretary of state or attorney general's office. By chance did you check the history before you purchased the car? It can tell you a lot sometimes....

No the cat is not the problem....its the HIGH pressure fuel pump that runs off the side of the cam that is leaking into the oil causing it to have the smell and fuel is bad badddd lubricant breaking down the oil prob causing it to " desil" whenever it's shut off occasionally correct?

GuruXX3MB- we have the exact same thing going on with our 2010 Traverse. It’s been at a shop for a week and a half and so far he’s checked sensors, replaced spark plugs and tried replacing the ECM. He now says he thinks it’s the timing chain and will cost over 2,000 to fix. This is getting beyond frustrating as we’ve already thrown so much into this car. Any ideas? Thank you

I am having the same issue as well in a 2009 Traverse 3.6L 2WD/FWD. I have replaced the stater, replaced the timing (just a heads up for anyone trying to do that on your own, a lift is an absolute necessity to do it while it is still in the vehicle. I can give step by step directions if needed) I have also replaced the high pressure fuel pump on the rail. The only thing I have not done is remove the catalytic convertors. I will be doing that this evening. Any other advise would be helpful.

I have a 2010 Traverse. It has had a rough idle when cold since i bought it. 198,000 now. Started flashing the "running on reduced power" and missing real bad. I checked the coolant level and it was a little low in the overflow. I noticed white smoke out of the exaughst (just a tiny puff) when at idle while looking down at it under the hood. It shows steady engine light and misfire cyl #6 and #4 fuel injector leaking. Here is the deal- solution: Bad Block porased and leaking water into #4 cyclinder, that is where coolant is going. Leaks into cyclinder when car is off and fills up and causes the rough idle at cold startup. Replacing the head, or gasket will NOT fix this. The block could be tested by dyed coolant and a bore scope in the suspected cyclinder. Hate to say it but Chevy got me on this one. If your reading this...they GOT you too. Choose to buy a new engine... For now, I am straight wiring engine fans to run all the time and removing the seal around the radiator cap to keep the pressure down. Temporary to get me by, my only vehicle...
