2009 ford Taurus key programing.

Question type: General

Wife has lost both keys. Locksmith tried to reprogram new key but failed. He left a key that he cut that turns on ignition. This key is metal only with no chip. Ignition has been tried with this key and of course nothing. Little lock shaped anti-theft light is flashing. #2 locksmith came out, said his programmer (Computer ) initialized but then stopped and gave an error message. He then tried to plug in a diagnostics computer in order to erase error codes. This caused the instrument cluster to go black or dead. When he unplugged the tool, instrument lights came back on. Is this because the Anti-Scan has not been reset from being activated earlier by trying to start car with the metal key that had no chip?

This is the perfect example of why to NEVER let a locksmith work on your vehicle with anti-theft / key issues. The dealership is always the best choice.

I guess so. Problem is that I assumed after talking to the locksmith(s) that they could fix it easily. They come to the car also. Now I have to tow the car to the dealer to get a key made. The #2 locksmith incidentally had just made a key for a friend who lost his Explorer keys about a week ago and had no problems. Still curious about why instrument cluster went dead while diagnostic computer was hooked up.

Any Reputable Full Service Locksmith can look the Key up by the Vehicle's VIN Number. Ford Dealership was a Sad Disappointment here in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. I had to actually tell them what was wrong with our Ford Explorer, and tell them it didn't have Passlock , but had the Transceiver that loops around the ignition switch. But our Locksmith has the Software that let's them look up, and Cut Keys with the Chips for the AntiTheft Security system, from the VIN Number, And Program both.
