09 Jeep Patriot - Subframe, steering gear rusted; front and rear struts leaking

Asked by Amy Mar 01, 2017 at 02:51 PM about the 2009 Jeep Patriot Limited

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Repair estimate is at least $4,307. Trade-in value is not much more, especially
in this condition, and I can't afford another car. Is it safe to drive for awhile?

That sounds dangerous. If you don't mind crashing and burning then keep going.

Sell it as is, "mechanic's special," describe what it needs and ask 3500, settle for 2500, and put it down on another car. You don't mention mileage but if it's outrageous you'll find plenty of takers. There are flippers who look for cars/trucks with subframe rot as they are actually not that expensive to swap out if you do the labor yourself.
