There is no set mileage because every one has different driving habits and there are several different grades of brake pads. Most brake pads have wear indicators that make a high pitched squealing noise when the pads are ready to be replaced. The best is to give them a visual inspection on a regular schedule. Another item that is frequently missed is changing the brake fluid. This again depends on your driving habits and conditions, but a good indicator is once the fluid in the reservoir starts to show a slight brown color it a good idea to change it.
