Worth the repair cost?

Asked by Mcnamk21 Sep 09, 2020 at 01:04 PM about the 2009 Toyota RAV4 Base 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My fiancé has a 2009 Toyota RAV-4 with 220,000 miles. Brought in for an oil
change today and the following services need to be done. Spark plugs,
water pump has a leak, front/rear differentials need to be drained and
refilled, and a transmission fluid enhance. Total cost for are just north of a
grand. We have been planing to get a new car in the next 6-8 months.
Wanting to know if its worth it to put in the money now and wait it out a little
longer, or just see what kind of trade in we can get and expedite the car
shopping?

Some of those services may be fluff. I would do the spark plugs if they are actually due for replacement and the water pump if the leak is bad. The ATF enhance sounds like BS to me. The differentials can probably just be topped off if they are low. None of these things will bring a penny more at trade in time.

The bottom line is this. Is driving the car for 6 months worth a grand to you? If not then trade it in or sell it now.
