Follow up question to the dash lights (VSC and check engine)

I did go to Autozone as suggested by FordNut and scanned the engine. They came up
with a P0051 fault. The counter person looked it up and it was an oxygen sensor heater
control circuit. Bank 2. Sensor 1. It has been almost a week and they are still lit and I feel
absolutely no difference in performance from prior to the lights coming on. Does that
sound accurate or is there another direction that should be explored ?

Sounds right. A faulty o2 sensor will not cause performance problems, nothing noticeable at all. It's just WAY soon to start having those problems on your Avalon is my concern. Maybe a rock did get up in the exhaust pipes and hit a connector, or even a rodent chewed a wire. wouldn't be the first time for that

Remember it's probably not the sensor its self...but the circuit to heat it. And I still say ignore the VSC ..it will go off soon

You can check your under hood fuse box. Fuses 9...10...14...15...21...31 ALL are labeled multiport fuel injection, nothing is labeled as circuit for 02 heater but one of those is the power supply to a heated sensor Page 362 in your owners manual for an image.
