Asked by Guru5H1SL Jan 18, 2018 at 11:27 AM about the 2009 Dodge RAM 1500 Laramie Crew Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I was driving down the highway and my 2009 dodge ram
5.7 hemi bogged down so I hit the gas and it bogged
down even more I get to the side of the highway and it
dies. It won’t start so I disconnected the negative side of
the battery for a few seconds and it starts right up then
dies. It wouldn’t start again so I tow it home and try
starting it the next day it starts right up and dies after a
few seconds.

sounds like the fuel pump or a clogged cat...is the check engine soon light on? Can you check the fuel pressure yourself?

I'm guessin' you're trying to avoid a repair shop like the plague?!? Like all of us, either principle, mistrust or simple lack of money motivates your visit to this sight. If the money light is on, get it read somehow. Borrow a code reader...OR...you can buy one of the orphan annie decoders CHEAP from walmart or amazon, they start round 10-15 bucks, depending upon your level of desire for surveillance n diagnosis. They won't tell you exactly whats wrong necessarily, but they'll point you in the right direction. Many times, the fuel trims will tell you lots about your problem, so if you decide to go down the path of the dark side or you're already there, make sure you get or got a code reader that also moonlights with live data streaming. Unfortunately, the fuel trims are useless if the engine won't run, but this should get you started.
