Crankshaft Pulley fell off

My daughter has 2009 Subaru Impreza and the crankshaft pulley has fallen off
twice. It looks like the bolt is stripped cannot see if the threads in the
crankshaft are also stripped but I assume they are. The keyway also looks,
suspect. Is there anything thing other than a rebuild to replace the crankshaft
to fix it

Did you torque it properly? It takes 133 ft lbs of torque (using oil). You would know if the hole was stripped if you used the right torque. Look up the procedure as it is too long to post.

I would look at Everything a bit more carefully. I have not see a crank pulley that falls off. Maybe the pulley is wrong so the bolt is bottoming out instead of torqued against the pulley. I have always had to use a pulley and never seen a pulley just fall off. I have not worked to much on a Subaru though.

No, Rschend's experience isn't that rare. You may be able to get a kind wrench to weld a new key-way onto the crankshaft end, but if not then, I'm sorry, but you'll have to trash the engine! Fortunately used 2.5 SOHC are fairly cheap, but get one with dry head gaskets before swapping. But again, if the threads aren't too stripped maybe salvage-surgery can work for awhile...or permanently. Good luck. Ern TSG/B
