Check engine, traction, cruise control lights

Asked by Armando Apr 12, 2017 at 09:34 PM about the 2009 Subaru Impreza 2.5i Premium

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2009 subaru impreza 2.5I and yesterday I
had my winter tires swapped out with summer
tires. After that I turned on my car and my cruise
control light is blinking, check engine, and traction
control light is on. All other lights are off and none
were on before the swap. Took it to AutoZone and
came back with code P0134 02 sensor circuit no
activity detected (bank 1 sensor 1). Although
everything looked normal and nothing was
damaged. I tried resetting the battery and no luck
and everything runs fine nothing unusual. Looking
to see if anybody has a similar problem, and how
to go about fixing it.

The O2 sensor problem must be a coincidence. The traction control light might be from a damaged wheel speed sensor wire.

Same on my 2013 Impreza and I just got a notice about a recall having to do with engine springs. Could these be related?

My 13 Impreza hatch has those lights on and is really starting to jerk when I accelerate. I wonder if it is related to the recall. The soonest my dealer could get me in was March, but I’m not sure my car is going to make it that long. Anyone have thoughts?

I just brought my 2013 Subaru Impreza in for the engine spring recall on Monday, I got it back Tuesday. As I was driving, my “check engine” light came on today (Wednesday) as did my traction light. Since the service center is closed I’m bringing my car back first thing tomorrow morning.

I've had my 2012 Impreza hatchback for a week after taking it in for the spring recall service was done. This morning my lights (traction control, check engine, blinking cruise control) came on but the car seems to be driving fine.

oh great, sounds like my 2013 Impreza is doing the same thing - it needs the recall springs thing done, when an appointment time opens up. Meanwhile, my check engine and traction light is on steadily. I thought it was the "drinks a lot of oil" issue, but adding oil didn't fix it. Have to wonder if it's related to the recall, also.

I don't have an answer, but my 2013 Impreza has the traction control light and check engine light going. I drove about 500 miles yesterday on snow tires without snow. I was hoping it was related to that and would be an easy fix.

Ive been having the same issue with my 2013 impreza Traction and check engine light are on CC blinking and was whatfelt like backfiring . This happened after I took it in for a recall. I took it back the dealership had it for a while and they said 2 cylinders weren't working properly so id need a whole new motor. I finally picked it up and the whole engine was shaking BAD. My bf looked at it and saw a sensor was disconnected. We had it towed to another shop. They determined it was 2 sensors and mentioned some wires looked burnt. The car is running fine now, but the lights are back on.

Just bought my 09’ Impreza WRX Wagon today; just had the same exact symptoms to a T. Solid CEL Light, Flashing Cruise Control, Solid Traction Control off. My only dilemma is that I didn’t do anything relating to what you guys did. I was under load accelerating foot to the floor on the highway about to hit 4th gear, the motor was about to redline and right when it was is chugged kinda hard then threw the light warnings at me. Car continued driving 40 miles quite normally, but when boost started coming in towards the top end I could feel her hesitating a bit. Scanned her at my buddy’s house, don’t recall code just remember it said bank 2 cam advanced than required or something of the sort. Any clues... anyone? Seems like this thread has been on for quite some time

Same exact issue occurred after new tires were put on my 08 Subaru Impreza - anyone resolve their problem?

Ask about the center dif when talking to the Subaru maintainence. All the tires on your Subaru are supposed to be within a certain thread range or it can destroy your center dif because it is an AWD vehicle. Having the same problem with my Subaru right now.

Check that your gas cap is tight before driving all over. It can be as simple as that, it happened to me.

Same issue. Engine code was P0457. I definitely had a loose gas cap, I think I forgot to screw it back in entirely. I cleared the code and Traction control light turned off, CC stopped flashing, and of course, check engine light turned off. Diagnose the Evap leak and it seems to resolve the lights. Hopefully it’s as simple as the gas cap for you all too!

My 2010 Impreza Wrx is doing this - check engine light, traction control, and my cruise is flashing at me. Scanned the code and it came back as a MAF Sensor error - running too rich. It was stalling itself when parked, very low rpm and engine power, struggled a lot. Tried cleaning the sensor with some specified cleaner and it made it drive able but the lights are still on. I’m going to get a new one soon - I’ll update if it works.

09 legacy with same issue. Scan came back with O2 sensor Bank 1 Sensor 2 code #0137 Cleared the code and car wouldn’t start. Unplugged O2 sensor wire harness and reattached. After 2nd try, the car started and all dash lights were off. Hoping it was just a freak thing, if it comes back on I’ll change the O2 sensor. Hope this helps. Cheers guys and gals.

13 wrx, same problem, waste gate was partially stuck, fixed. The shut down caused a exhaust leak which is causing an error on the O2. Hope to fix that this week. The waste gate circuit may have more troubles, will see.

I've had the same issues... Changed out almost everything electronic.... My issue solved by a mechanic in two minutes... Harness to the alternator clip was defective. NO MORE flashing lights and key fob works. :-)

I had the exact same issue. It was not the gaz cap. I checked the oil and it was miising 1 liter. I added the oil and the problem solved right after I started back the car. (Impreza 2013)

Update: I have been driving on this for the past 2 years. It has come and gone on its own. I have reset it a few times, but after a month or two it comes right back. I have been driving it gently and letting it warm up for 10 min before driving in the winters. Bought a OBD2 diagnostic computer and am getting a P1449 alarm code, "Evaporative Vent Control Filter Clogging". My understanding is that this sub system is used to purge the fuel rich intake manifold on start up, or during cruise control deceleration periods. Without fixing it the car has a tendency to run rich until its warmed up. there doesn't seem to be any problems other than that.

I have the same problem with my 08 Impreza 2.5i sport wagon. Engine light and traction light came on. My engine runs fine no problem there and I just recent just a clutch replacement. My car runs good and does well RPM wise so idk what the lights are about. I actually did scan the codes and my mechanic said it came back with 15 codes which he thinks isn’t correct. Any one got any idea or fix. I don’t think it’s a gas cap but I can try that.

Having the same exact thing. Check engine on, traction control, and flashing cruise. Just out of the blue, car runs fine. I got code P2096 Post Catalyst Fuel Trim System - Too Lean (Bank1). My tire pressure light has been on before this
