What is causing power loss when pulling a 6 ton load? Had engine light come on, limped to a dealer.

Asked by rcfree51 Apr 05, 2014 at 07:54 PM about the 2009 Ford F-350 Super Duty Lariat Crew Cab LB 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The dealer claims it was a computer re-calibration required. TSB 09-16-8. After this was performed, hitched up my fifth wheel for the trip home, and into the first moderate long grade, same problem, loss of power and the engine light comes on. I found if I pull over and turn off the engine and wait a few minutes, it seams to recycle and run fine for awhile, then the same thing.

Obviously they didn't do anything but hook up their computer and throw the easiest fix at it. I'd take it back and demand that they fix it for free. It sounds as though you were traveling though: you could take it to your local Ford dealer and ask if they can help you with the situation. Some states (Like here in California) have a Bureau of Automotive Repair that can get your truck fixed, your money back or both!

The TSB you mentioned was supposed to be a "catch all" for various concerns. I wonder if they bothered to do any actual diagnostics or just threw this TSB at it and hoped for the best.
