turn the key on w/ engine off press the gas pedal 3 times then take off the key.

In my experience Israel is right but that will only reset the oil life light. You will need to hook up a code reader to find out what is setting off the check engine light. Hopefully its something small to fix and then the light will reset. Just my experience I'm definitely not a mechanic.

2008 Silverado 5.3 L I was driving and the oil pressure gauge went to zero, check engine light on, I changed the oil pressure sensor, and had good pressure. the check engine light was still on. I removed a cable from the battery for about 5 minutes, hooked it all back up and all is good.

Check the very small oil filter that sits below and inside the hole where the oil pressure sensor screws in. This small filter becomes clogged over time can be cleaned but its better if u can replace with new! Dealer part only.
