Steering Wheel Locked

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
My Nissan Sentra 2009 steering wheel is locked, I have tried jiggling the wheel
and turning the key with it in and out of the ignition. Nothing else happens. I
was wondering if this could have anything to do with a faulty battery.

All Sentra models have a steering wheel lock that works just a little too good. Make sure the car is in park (Neutral for manual shift) then engage the break (Clutch for manual) and place the key in the ignition and turn it to "accessory on" now turn the wheel as far opposite of the locked direction as you can and turn the key to crank the engine. The steering wheel lock should release its self. If it doesn't the locking mechanism may have been jammed at which point you will need a mechanic or to open the steering column and disengage and replace the mechanism. Be very careful after removing the key as it is easy in Sentras to turn the wheel too far jamming the wheel lock.
