Do I have to remove the air bag?

Just plain DO NOT fool around with air bags. period.

Untrained persons fooling with airbags usually end up getting hit in the face real hard. For your sake and well being take it to a trained mech. I do all my own work and have been for about 30 years but I still won't foul with an air bag.
