Now my car won’t need start

Asked by AUTUMNBL Feb 22, 2018 at 02:10 PM about the 2010 Chevrolet Aveo 5 LS Hatchback FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I was driving home on the interstate and my car just
stopped accelerating and started jerking almost like it was
trying to die , I didn’t know what was going on so I put the
pedal to the floor and still nothing I then looked and my
hand was on HOT I pulled over the car was smoking shut
it off and let it set for awhile! I then checked the coolant in
it and it was bone dry I put a whole jug in it and then
started it up. I was trying to get off the interstate got off on
the next exit and it done the same thing! Pulled over
opened the hood and the radiator hose had came off on
one side and all the coolant was running out. Fixed it and
added another jug. I started it up and got about 5 or 6
miles and it started jerking and not wanting to accelerate
again so I pulled over shut it off and now it won’t start
back I had to have it towed home! It will crank like it’s
going to start but it won’t

Continuing to drive a car that is overheating especially when it's radiator is bone dry can ruin an engine. Should have towed it to a mechanic and then had it fixed. At the very least, replace hoses, refill and check cooling system for proper operation, then get it to a shop for evaluation.
