Clunking noise in drive train

Have had vehicle to dealer several
times last time for 2 months. There is
a banging noise when taking your
foot off the accelerator and stepping
back on it they've rebuilt both the
front and rear differentials replace the
solenoid valve in the transmission
three times now and the chain in the
transfer case nothing has made the
slightest bit of difference it also
makes the same banging when
putting in reverse

Ford had some problems with transmissions in both Mountaineer and Mariner vehicles in the 1005-2010 era before they shut down Mercury. I ,too, have an issue with my 2006 but it is just an annoyance. Yours sounds more serious. Not sure what can be done short of replacing the trans or trading the car though.
