How do you determine if you need to follow severe or regular sevice for transmission.

Asked by Picky54 Oct 03, 2013 at 12:42 PM about the 2010 Chevrolet Impala LT FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I travel around 700 to 1000 Kilometers, mainly highway, a week but I am not towing, a taxi, city driver or any other of the criteria for the severe transmission service. Should I follow the regular 160,000 or the 80,000 service schedule?

I would tell you to follow "regular" 80,000 service. Think about it, you say you do on average 52 (wks a year) x 700 (kilometers per week) = 36,400 to 52,000 kilometers per year at most. Not including time off from work which would lower your "actual" annual mileage.

Thanks for that Mark, wondering why GM give you the 2 options for Transmission service?. My dealer tried to tell me I need it done every 50.000 Kilometers but could not qualify it when I asked about the GM recommendations.
