2010 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer 4 WD HI mode

If you had it in 4wd, it will do that if you were on dry pavement. When turning, the wheels in the front aren't turning at the same ratio as the back wheels. Where you turning on a dry road?

Thank you for your response. Driving conditions were partially plowed, then not plowed at all, and then just wet pavement, on my 5 mile drive home. It was making the sound the whole way home, on all types of condition roadways. Specifically, I rode around an unplowed, but packed snow, traffic circle in the development, where I live, and it continued to make the howling sound as I went around it. Any info appreciated!

What comes to my mind is ... do you actually need the 4WD? If you have Auto 4x4, that should be enough to get you through the streets, whether they're plowed or not. I've had my Explorer for 8 years and have rarely used the 4x4 High, unless plowing through heavy slush on the roads. But I would go with Reelin68's advice above, and have it checked over by the dealer before your warranty expires. Best of luck. BTW, I am not a mechanic (in case it was hard to tell! LOL) but just someone who learns from experience.

Thanks for your responses! The mechanic at the dealer explained to me that there just was not enough snow for it to be in 4x4 HI, that is why the noise. It made sense as he explained it to me, but still going to have MY mechanic check it out, for sure! Appreciate your knowledge!!!
