Oil pressure gauge
Asked by Wakesurfer08 Aug 21, 2014 at 06:16 PM about the 2010 Cadillac CTS 3.6L Premium AWD
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
My 2010 Cadillac CTS 4 with the 3.6 liter has a fluctuating oil pressure gauge. It
bounces from 0 to 100 and vice cersa, and never settles in the middle. No warning lights
ever come on and all other gauges operate as they should. The car is running fine. My
question is, does this sound like the sending unit and am I safe to drive until I can get it
next week?

I would not run the motor until you can confirm that there is continuous oil flow/pressure to the motor.
My 2012 CTS LS is doing this exact same... took it to a dealer, they said they didn't see anything and we drove off without any maintenance performed. Going to take a video of the 100 reading and show them, it rarely goes to 0 now, but 100 quite often.
When you driving you CTS Cadillac what is the normal look gauge
my 2008 has the same problem. What is going on.We had the oil pump replace and still doing it.
Just had my water pump replaced and now my oil pressure gauge goes to 50 on te freeway but on the streets, it goes down to about 10. On idle it stays on ten 2010 cadillac cts

oil pressure sensor price is 20 bucks goes under the oil filter
I was a heavy line tech at GM dealers for 32 years and knos what i am saying , so take it to. heart and either pay to get it checked by a reputable technician or just. go for the sensor and see what happens

Most likely the sensor. Common problem. The key is, did your engine start to sputter or lose power? Is it running rough? If everything seems normal and nothing changed other than the pressure gauge, then the sensor is most likely the issue. If you notice this while driving, or it suddenly drops to zero, I would pull over immediately and check things out before assuming. The normal operating range should be around 10-15 at idle and 50 (give or take) when under load or driving.
