Oil change

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I have a 2008 Cadillac CTS and I'm getting a
message that I need an oil change but it's only
been 4000 miles since my last one. Is this normal?
I had read that it is usually about 7500 between oil
changes.

If the computer says to change it I would change it. BTW, if you care about your car I would change the oil more frequently than 7,500 miles.
That's just what I had read. I just have a feeling that the place that changed it didn't do it properly. They had me eating like 3 hours just for an oil change! I'm never going back there again!
Maybe they forgot to reset the warning light. Check your oil level and see if it is clean or really black.
GM has a tried & true oil change indicator (OCI) system. Your Caddy should tell you how much oil life remains at the push of a button on the dash to the right of the steering wheel. After your next oil change, make sure it's been reset. You can Google the procedure if they forgot (it's simple).
You can listen to what F_O_R says about caring for your car, or not. I used to run the Oil Analysis program for the Army's Engineer school with over 1400 components tracked. Go by the OCI. GM's engineers knew what they were doing, and built in a 10% fudge factor. If you add oil because your Caddy has one of those notorious "don't know where it went" engines, you have even more wriggle room. If you're low and didn't add, well, your computer is trying to save your rear.
I change my oil every 3000 miles and make sure they rest the oil meter
