Good value?

Asked by Kai Jun 17, 2018 at 12:37 AM about the 2010 Subaru Outback 2.5i Premium

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

The private seller is asking $6900 for a 2010 subaru outback 2.5i premium with
185,000 miles on it, is that a good price or should I not bother? Also what's the
difference between this version, a limited, and a regular one?

That is a lot of miles. If it lasts to 220,000 without major repairs you spent $7 grand for 35,000 miles which for me would be less than 2 years use. If you drive much at all I would not buy it even if it is in really good shape. If you have a 5 year loan it would probably be worn out long, long before you pay it off. Offer less if you decide to go ahead.

Too many miles, unless you're looking to take on a project car. Fully agree with FOR.

I will put it this way. For about 4x that price you can buy a brand new Subaru. That car in my opinion is 90% worn out from a practical stand point yet you are paying for 25% of a new car. Do the math!

I'm going to play devil's advocate with FOR here, in that the motor is capable of FAR greater milage. But my leeriness stems from the age of the first-gen CVT. Check the t-belt for cracks, too. This chariot MAY be a quite fair deal if all is well.
