stalling

Asked by GuruBFYB9 Jan 20, 2019 at 04:43 PM about the 2010 Dodge Journey SXT FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I was on my way to the store when my 2010 dodge journey sxt just shut
down, the engine died but lights were still on,  I quickly had to turn off the
road before my power steering locked which i was lucky enough to do then
shut off all lights  and parked for a couple of minutes, tried to start it again,
on the 3rd try it started, i let it run for a few minutes turned around and went
home, not wanting to chance the drive on the highway,  what caused this to
happen?  Now when i leave to go somewhere it sputters on the road like it
wants to stall.  Battery is new, had spark plugs changed last fall, checked
wires they were good, put gas line cleaner in fuel thinking maybe the fuel
injector is dirty but.....problem still exists.

I have a 2015 dodge journey and I've been having the same exact issue. How I solved the issue? I looked at the recall info S89 for dodge jeep and Chrysler vehicles and found out that they had the exact same problem. The camshaft or crankshaft sensor was replaced in those vehicles. I changed my crankshaft sensor and it solved my shut down in the middle of traffic while driving issue . I actually bought both sensors.

I had the same problem with my 2015 and at first the check engine light didn’t come on the next day it came on and code reader read P0335. Buying the sensor fingers crossed it works. This could be a pretty dangerous thing though to have your car driving at 40Mph and lose power of everything. Anyone report it to Dodge?

I’m having the same issue With my 2015 dodge crossroad. My engine lost complete power! It’s very dangerous. Would anyone like to sign a petition for this issues so dodge can look into this? I’ve already called to make a recall claim. I think a petition would move dodge to get this issue solved?

As I’ve researched this I a common problem with the 2012 Journey. I have a Crew 3.6 engine. It cut off today in the middle of busy street thankfully there was no traffic. The lights started flickering and U couldn’t stop the car I let it cruise to a curb and I put it in park. Need I say it was scary. This car needs a recall as I have read similiat stories

My 2012 Journey started shutting down a few times while driving. It would have to sit anywhere from 10 to 40 mins then it would finally start, otherwise it acted like it was trying to start and the lightning bolt symbol would appear and then it would shut off. I had to have it towed twice. After the first tow my mechanic replaced the electronic throttle. A little over a month later it started again and I had it towed the 2nd time. They had it for 2 weeks and have no idea why it is doing this.

Have you suggested testing crankshaft and camshaft sensors?

I'm having very similar problems. Went to pass another vehicle and rpms went out of control (really high). Worked itself out but made an odd sound so i Changed the oil and it helped some. Next day wife had to get towed home after car died while driving.. Red lightening bolt, and check engine light on. So far I've changed throttle body, oil temp sensor and oil pressure sensor. And I'm still in the same place with a piece of junk that won't start.

I'm working with the same issue. This happened in the heat wave in the Southwest US in June 2021 with temps at or near 100 degrees for several days straight. I am adding this point because my AC was also struggling and I could feel a hard pull on the engine from the AC and it would lose RPMs momentarily from time to time. Acceleration was very sluggish. When the engine dies, it's not a sputter or choking action, it just straight up drops to 0 RPMs. The engine would die while driving, though electrical power was not disabled. If I was at a high enough speed, it would start itself backup after 3-5 seconds of letting it coast. If I wasn't and had to stop, I could turn the entire car off and wait about 10 seconds. After that, it would start again. My error code was 0335 which should be the Camshaft Position Sensor ($27.00 part), but I replaced both the front and rear sensor and still got the problem. I'm still researching the issue and will go through fuses and then my fuel pump/tank next. As far as I can tell, there is no fuel filter for the 2015 Dodge Journey. Online forums say the filter is integrated into the fuel pump which mounted into the top of the fuel tank. I'll try to remember to come back and update if anything solves the problem for me.

I recently had the same issue with a 2011 Camry. I cleaned the throttle body completely, idle air control valve and mass air flow sensor. I did not have a code though. My A/C would make car shut off. I know you have a camshaft code but have you tested the crankshaft sensor?

im having the same issue have replaced the crankshaft sensor 3 times and its still shutting of on my wife. has any one solved the issue out side of the sensor???? ive wiggled wires did a hard resets and it is still shutting off.

Regarding my issue, I took my car to a shop. They checked the code and I believe it came back saying the two camshaft sensors were bad. Both being brand new, we opted for a full flush. It was due anyway. After that, they took it for a test drive and as luck would have it, it died on the highway. They took it back, replaced the crankshaft sensor and it hasn't stalled since. So in my case, it was most likely the crankshaft sensor. But camshaft sensors are cheap and right on top of the engine. Replace all 3 before going to a shop. Hope this helps.
