It's there for a reason but if you don't want to replace it shouldn't be a big problem depending on where it is and what it does
Exactly, it was put there for a reason! Sounds like it's near the gas tank. Looking at a diagram of your exhaust system, you have two mufflers back there. One on each side. Have the heat shield replaced and start going to another mechanic! Jim
My 2010 Avalon heat shield was rattling. Mechanic took it off, saying no harm would happen. He said just do local driving. Now I wonder should I have it replaced?

2010 Avalon blows cold air, but no heat. It slowly loses coolant, from reservoir.. The hoses are not cracked. I was told it could be thermostat or heater core. Is this expensive repair?
