Passanger seat air bag sensor needs to be replace. Do I have to replace the entire seat?

Some that I have seen you have to replace the bottom seat cushion because its all made together. the whole seat seems unneccessary.

they are interested in the contents of your wallet....ask yourself "how many air-bag accidents have you been involved with?", and decide if it is economically feasible....to me this whole deal is a sham~

It has a switch in the seat. The only dealer "fix" is to replace the seat. So that part is true. -- The big question is what does the switch do? Can you disconnect it and have the air bags work like in every other car that has no switch?

If I were going to sell the car as a used car dealer I follow the dealer recommended solution and eat the cost. If I were going to keep the car personally, I would take it to a shop that could read the code adn resent it for next to nothing. It is probably just a defective code. Problem is if you get in a wreck and the bag deploys too hard, the passenger could be in jeopardy depending on his weight. Odds are the bag would deploy properly should that unlikely even happen. You are taking a risk, but probably a small one. If you are selling the car, I would definitely follow dealer protocol to ensure that it is safe for the next driver.

I did have to have a cushion replacement. The sensor in my car stayed on all the time. I had just gotten the car at CarMax so I was under the 30 day warranty. Their service department told me this was normal. The owner's manual said the opposite. My previous car was totaled and the airbags did not deploy, and I was not happy about my injuries. Airbags had saved the lives of my two daughters 10 years ago, so I'm just not playing with those things. I took it back, they sent it to Nissan for a diagnostic check. Nissan said it needed a new seat cushion. I have leather interior, so I looked up the cost of the repair, I knew it would be at least $2,000. The car came back from the dealership with a cloth seat cushion. I was livid, to say the least. I saw the invoice that was almost $700. Carmax claims that Nissan refuses to make this right. I don't believe that. Carmax will not pay the additional $1,800 for Nissan to install a factory leather cushion and eat the $700 repair. Carmax has agreed to send my car to a custom upholstery shop to cover the cushion to match the rest of the car. Of course, I am left to wonder if Carmax planned all along to cover Nissan's cloth seat and the car was returned to me before it was supposed to be. The good news is that the light above the radio isn't on constantly and I'm getting it repaired at no charge. I just hope it matches. Geez.

I have a 2003 Nissan altima and hit someone , left drivers side and it made both air bags come out and the engine shut off will it start if I replace the air bag sensors
